Proactive Approach to Internet Safety

93% of all Americans age 12-17 years old use the Internet. 65% of those same participants are active in at least one social networking site. Popular on-line social networking sites for children, tweens and teens include Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and Flickr.

Parents need to realize we’re in a totally different era as far as technology than when they went to school. Learning about the Internet and a proactive approach to protecting children and teens will be key in protecting their future. Children and teens who participate on popular social networking sites need to realize that this overabundance of sharing (both words and photos) will come back to haunt them in the future.
